Urban Crossways Pillow - Pattern Details

It’s finally here! The Urban Crossways pattern is now available!

This post outlines everything you need to know about the Urban Crossways pattern + stick around to see the Pattern Testers Parade at the end!

This is the first pattern to offer both a PDF Pattern and Printed Pattern.

We have also collaborated with Lily Todd Fabrics to offer you eight different fabric kits for this pillow!

YOU HAVE PLENTY OPTIONS!

This one pattern allows you to make a two-colour, five-colour or scrappy pillow. Plus you can choose a light or dark background. The design works equally well for fabric prints or solids making this a versatile pattern.

Which pillow will you make? It can be hard to decide and I must admit I love them all! If you can’t decide then create a set of mix and match pillow by making two or more of the different pillow options.

SEWING A SCANT 1/4 INCH SEAM

This pattern requires you to sew a scant 1/4 inch seam to ensure the blocks are the correct size. This is particularly crucial to sewing the L-Shaped blocks. Sewing a scant 1/4 inch seam is not difficult, it just takes a moment to understand what it is and how to sew it.

Don’t worry, I’ve got you covered! I’ve done a whole feature blog to help you discover what is a scant 1/4 inch seam; when a scant 1/4 inch seam matters; and how to sew a perfect scant 1/4 inch seam in Two Easy Steps!

Scant 1/4 inch requires you to sew just under 1/4 inch, which is typically a thread or two within your normal 1/4 inch seam.

QUILTING

If you are unsure how to quilt your pillow front, then take a look at our feature on Quilting Ideas. Discover a simple machine quilting plan to highlight the ‘crossways’ in the design, with a PDF Quilt by Numbers plan you can download and print.

A combination of machine and hand quilting is used on our cover scrappy pillow to great effect, with plenty of photos showing the quilting.
